Are "Maruthu Pandiyar" from the maravar community or the agamudayar community?

Are "Maruthu Pandiyar" from the maravar community or the agamudayar community?

Kishore,

  1. Maruthu Pandiyars are “Agamudayars” native of Ramnad.
  2. They belonged neither to the family of the Royals, the ancient Poligars, nor to their division of the caste, Maravars.
  3. In fact, British made a ploy to propagate (the caste factor) them as “Agamudayars” and succeeded in splitting the support of “Maravars” who were dominant in Sivagangai. In fact they are the victims of caste divisions.

  1. Brief History: Young Maruthu Pandiyars, born in 1748 and 1753, are brave and saved the life of Sibagangai King on many occasions and raised to the ranks of high positions in the kingdom.
  2. When the King died in the battle with British, his daughter Vellachi Nachiar and his widow queen Velu Nachiar fled to Dindigul and were protected by Gopala Naicker, who ruled Virupakshi. (After battle of Thoppur, Ramnad Kings sidlined with Thanjavur/ Mysore factions and against Madurai faction of elsewhere Vijayanagara feaudatories).
  3. Maruthu Pandiars joined the Queen in Dindigul later..
  4. Maruthu Pandiars utilized 7 years to train themselves well in martial arts and warfares in Virupakshi. They were the inventors of “Valari” and many variants of “Spear”. They used it in the Poligar wars against the British.
  5. The Marudu brothers with 12,000 armed men surrounded Sivaganga and plundered the Nawab’s territories and later defeated British forces in 1789.
  6. When the Queen regained her Kingdom, Periya Maruthu was made the commander in chief and Chinna Maruthu was the Chief Minister. The queen died in 1796. They were the rulers on behalf of young Vellacci Nachiyar.
  7. Marudhus were in close association with Kattabomman. Younger gave asylum to Kattabommans dumb brother Oomadurai.
  8. Maruthus raised the voice to unite all, to fight against the British from Trichy fort. The brothers, who in their proclamation of independence exhorted the people to rise above caste considerations to fight a common enemy, British.
  9. At last the Marudhu Pandiyars fell a victim to the cause of liberating the motherland from the English supremacy.
  10. On October 24, 1801, the brothers were publicly hanged to death at the Tirupputhur fort of southern Tamil Nadu. The fact that the Maruthu Pandiyar brothers were the rulers of Sivaganga kingdom did not invoke any ceremony during the execution. Every one of their fellow rebels, their commanders and servants, their sons and even their young grandsons were hanged alongside them, supposedly from palmyra trees around the fort.
  11. The seventy-three-year-old rebel diplomat Gopala Naicker, and several other leaders of Dindigul were executed even without waiting for the confirmation by the Madras Government.
  12. The male heirs of the family of an executed leader were usually pardoned by the British. But an exception was made for one son of Periya Maruthu called Doraisamy, who was banished to Malaysia. None of the other sons or grandsons were spared.
