Why did nobody in Tamil Nadu raise their voice when Karunanidhi declared Ugadi a state holiday in Tamilnadu?

Is it a communal question?

Or a political question?

Change with the times. Ask useful questions like

Why did nobody in India raise their voice when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru declared Christmas a National holiday?

  1. I do not think Ugadi holiday has any connection with MK.
  2. Tamil Nadu has a sizable population of Telugus, Kannadigas, Malayalis and Marathis.
  3. Tamil Nadu and Kerala follow Solar Calendar and celebrate the New Year in Chiththirai Thirunal.
  4. While Andhra, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra follow Lunar Calendar. Andhra, Telangana, and Karnataka celebrate the new year as Ugadhi and Maharashtra celebrates the day as Gudi Padwa.
  5. Ugadi Celebration in Tamil Nadu dates back to 14th century South of River Kaveri and it dates back to 2nd century North of River Kaveri.

Still if you have any objection in celebrating Ugadi in Tamil Nadu please let me know.

Question: No I am asking if it's a telugu holiday, why is it official holiday in TN, just because telugu people are in Tamil politics? Then pongal should also be a holiday in Andhra and Telangana.

You have not read my answer properly.

1

Ugadhi is a festival of “not only Telugus” it is a new year festival of Telugu, Kannadigas and Marathis.

Official record of TN shows that TN has 6% Telugu, 3% Kannadigas and 0.1% Thanjavur Marathi speaking people.

Why we should not have holiday for 9% minorities, when we declare Christmas holiday for 6% minorities.

2

Regarding Pongal? It is celebrated with different name “Makara Sankranthi” in respective states. Gujarat also celebrates 14the Jan as Uttarayan, Punjab also celebrates. They have not asked TN to declare holiday for Krishna Jayanti or Mahavir Jayanti.

Since we declared Christmas as Holiday, why US and other European nations not declaring holiday for Pongal or Krishna Jayanti. Leaving this thought for you.

3

Telugu speaking states are three. Andhra, Telangana and TN. Present day Andhra and TN are part of Madras Presidency during British, are part of Vijayanagara Empire from 14–18 centuries, are again part of Pallava Rule earlier. Again go through my answer

Ugadi Celebration in Tamil Nadu dates back to 14th century South of River Kaveri and it dates back to 2nd century North of River Kaveri.

Just think over why this racism? After all, we are humans. Yadum Oore; Yavarum Kelir.
