Why is Tamil borrowing so many English words? Why are the Tamil people not able to protect their language?

Since Time immemorial, common people use the words, as it is. ( whether it is in their own mother tongue or used in other languages they come in contact for the first time).

It is the scholars they try to perfect it or search the suitable terms to represent that word in their language.

Common man is concerned with his living rather than language and scholars make living out of language. That is the difference.

It is prudent to stike a balance.

With the advent of Internet and Smart Phones, not only Tamil, many of the Indian language users, including Hindi, text their language using English Scripts. Examples: “Bolo” “Kese Ho” “Baad me”

Here convenience matters.

In ancient times, since 2nd/3rd Century, other languages (Vada Mozhigal-read it as Sanskrit) and other new religions made their appearance in Tamil Nadu. Especially region North of Kaveri river.

By 7–11th Century, Kanchi was an epitome of studies and very much popular than Nalandha / Taxila Universities. It has many schools including Vada Mozhigal.

With the advent of Bhakti movement, many religious heads all over the subcontinent were its alumnis.

Tamil borrowing so many Vada Mozhi words and vice versa is very common.

There is a language called Manipravala.

( Manipralava is an unique system of writing which incorporates both Sanskrit and Tamil).

There were many works available in Manipralava.

For example:

Alwars were the Saints or Seers, who has taken Tamil to the heights in new territory. They have contributed Nalayira Divya Prabandham which is recited now in all Perumal temples. Bhagavata Purana in North is a Vada Mozhi translation of Azhwars Tamil work.

Kanchi is the head quarter of Vadakalai Sri Vaishnavism sect.

Venkatanatha or Vedanta Desika is believed to have composed one thousand verses within a single night on Sri Ranganatha of Sri Rangam Temple. He has contributed over 130 works in various languages Tamil, Prakrit, Sanskrit and Manipralava.

Do not worry about Tamil. It coexist with many languages, over time. There have been saviors of Tamil in all time frames.
