Why do Sri Lankan Tamils feel they are a minority when they form 25% of Sri Lanka's population compared to the Indian Tamils who form only about 6% of India's population?

 Dear Anonymous, a nameless divine,

Your facts are wrong alongwith your perception.

Sri Lankan population is only 2 crore. Tamils are about 20 lakhs, about 10%. Population of 2 crore where 1.8 Crore majority could not take along with them, 20 lakh minority.

TN itself has 7 Crore population, more than three times of total Sri Lanka. 7 Cr is a big number with the emotional support of 130 cr divines.

This Tamil identity is the dangerous thing created by the tiny island.

We, in TN, do not aware of this tamil identity business before 1980s. Even before independence of India, the mainland had bigger empires with wider geographic reach, consisted of all ethnic communities since 14th century.

Proof is in the pudding, just an example Rajinikanth prospers in TN whereas Subramanyam Swami prospers in Delhi and Shiv Nadar prospers in UP.

Mainland follow golden rule:

Yadum Oore; Yavarum Kelir.

I am surprised, within 20 lakhs, there is a sub categorisation by this Island nation as Indian Tamils and Sri Lankan Tamils.

Many in Mainland (TN) may not be aware that, Tamils in N Eastern region of Sri Lanka, settled before 12–13 century, alongwith native Tamil in West and rest are called Sri Lankan Tamils,

whereas

Tamil plantation workers migrated in 19th century to Central Sri Lanka by the British are called Indian Tamils.

Fall out in TN:

I could recall, after 1980s

There are organized groups in the name of “Tamil Nationalism (Sri Lanka?)” or “Tamil Desiyam (Indian Branch?), which always try to play these ethnic divisions.

These people support “red wood smugglers” in Eastern Ghatts as they are Tamils. Few Tamil TV Channels follow Nalini, a convicted assassin, for over 35 years.

Why they do?

British not only divided us through partition of India, Pakistan and created conflicts in Kashmir.

It also rendered 8 lakh plantation tamil workers “Stateless” at the time of Sri Lankan independence. Majority were ezhavas or Panayeri Sanaars, migrated during British regime in 19th century from Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Since then 40% were given citizens in Sri Lanka and remaining 60% were displaced and accepted in India, UK, Australia and Canada. India has accepted over 120000.

Since they had emotional trauma of “Stateless” due to ethnic conflict, they always look for creating such ethnic conflicts in the mainland. They create imagineries of trauma they underwent and pass it onto youngsters of mainland. They even try to align the caste names as found in Sri Lankan Eastern Region.

Many in Mainland (TN) may not be aware that, Tamils in N Eastern region of Sri Lanka, settled before 12–13 century, alongwith native Tamil in West and rest are called Sri Lankan Tamils, whereas Tamils migrated in 19th century to central Sri Lanka by the British are called Indian Tamils.

Eastern region Tamils follow traditional “Kudi” system of Vellalars or Karaiyars with Panchamars (Nalars, Pallars, Parayars, Vannars and Ambattayars). Now you may wonder, how these Indian Ezhava Tamils migrated as bonded labours in 19th century to central Sri Lanka, made our TN youngsters popularising the Sri Lankan term Vellalars - it is tail trying to make the head dance. Beware, 1.2 Lakh bad elements spoiling 7 crore mainland Tamils.

There are films such as “Asuran” on the caste lines of Maharashtra, murdering the main theme of Sahitya academy novel “Vekkai” and projecting it as happened in TN.

They have taken an incident of breast tax from history in Travancore Princely state and created an imaginary as if it happened in Tamil Nadu. Ridiculous.

They are backed by political parties and Foreign funds, ofcourse from their diaspora across the Globe. There are people employed by them, to propogate such tweets in social media.

Their view does not reflect the view of rest. The mainland had bigger empires with wider geographic reach, consisted all ethnic communities since 14th century. Proof is in the pudding, just an example Rajinikanth and many more in all spheres.

Majority still follow golden rule:

Yadum Oore; Yavarum Kelir.

Yes. Tamils pay price for the conversion, migration tactics adopted by the British.

It is time to ensure that these stateless elements not play ethnic cards with our youngsters .

We had enough in mainland, Karuppar Koottam, Sanga Thamizhan- it is being projected everything these “Traumatized Stateless People” does as done by Ancient Tamils!!!

Is Tamil Samanam the same as present day Jainism?

 Samanam and Jainism are different.

Tamil Scholars, mainly Tamil Pandits, Professors and Tamil Poets who normally do not have exposure outside their regions, confused and used vice versa.

Jainism is one of the competing religions alongwith Saivism, Vaishnavism and Buddhism during early five centuries.

There were many Sramanic religions when Mahavir proposed Jainism ( Restraint is the theme). They are contemperous to Mahavir- Buddha, Makkali Gosalas, Kassappas and Sanjayas.

Mohan N R's answer to What makes Jainism a better religion than Hinduism?

Samanars predate to Srmanic religions.

There were several mystics (over 84 Maha Siddhas - 18 Tamil Siddhas) in our holy land before and after Buddha, Mahavira, Gosalas, Kassappas, and Sanjayas. These mystics contributed much in philosophy, medicine, metullergy and performed miracles.

Some worshipped Shiv, some Sakthi, some Murugan. After Buddhism and Jainism, some created the left hand sects within Buddhism and Jainism.

Why they are called Samanars?

As said earlier, these mystics contributed much in philosophy, medicine, metullergy and performed miracles. There objective is to attain immortality (Saha Varam in Tamil) through manipulating Swara (Vasi in Tamil).

In Swara science to attain various Siddhis, the Prana is further classified as Five important Sub Pranas. (Total 10).

Prana takes care of all intakes through mouth, nose etc. Apana takes care of all excretions. Samana is the one which converts intakes to nourishments to the body and excretions.

Samanars are the ones who mastered the Samana, equalize and keep check both on Prana and Apana for mortals to show the possibility of immortality through disturbing it through Vyana (material world) and Udana (spiritual world). The center is Navel, non thinking brain.

As said earlier, some Samanars worshipped Shiva, some Sakthi (majority- as Sakthi is Prana), some Murugan (again Sakthi of Kumaran - Koumari) .After Buddhism and Jainism, some created the left hand sects (deals with energy / rituals) within Buddhism and Jainism.

12 Steps to Attain Mortality

Do dialects exist in Sanskrit?

 Yes.

Here is my version.

I prefer to classify, Sanskrit into three. The Sanskrit spoken colloquelly is called “1.Laukita” and Sanskrit used in Vedas are “2.Vaidika”. Now both are rare, the “most influenced by sanskrit” language is “3.Marathi”

In order to understand “laukita” better, I am reproducing below the origin and decline of Sanskrit:

1.Natives: Sanskrit was the mother tongue of North West Part of the Indian Subcontinent in the distant past. We can conveniently say, in Aryavardha country (the region of Sindhu river), and/or Kashmir and adjacent regions.

2.Grammer: The grammer was written by Panini in 5th century BCE.

3.Loka and Vedic: The Sanskrit spoken colloquelly is called “Laukita” and Sanskrit used in Vedas are “Vaidika”

4.Too Strict: It is expected that one should learn Grammer First to learn Vedas. These are not followed as many argue, that if I can speak in the world (loka) and can read vedas, what is the need for learning Grammer.

5.Rituals: With the spread of Sanskrit south of himalayas and north of vindhyas, Brahmins adopted the strict grammarian version for rituals. Sanskrit then become the second langauge for Brahmins in the East and the Western regions, leading to dialects with regional accents. Various regional scripts including the Grandha were in use in various geographic regions. Use of Devanagiri is generally used fairly in recent times.

6.New Religions: Budhdhism and Jainism, developed in the East, stressed the use of Pali, Magadh and Ardhmagadh (collectively we mention as Prakrit). With the dominance of Maurya Empire, these religions put Kshatriyas dominance over Brahmins, Came up with eight classifications of Aryans (like by birth, by clan, by langauge, by profession…etc). Ardhmagadh is considered as the superior langauge.

7.Revolt: The spread of the new religions, set the revolt through out the country in 3rd century. The endownments to temples were stopped and the Brahmins were excuted. Prakrit was made compulsary as Court language. The literary work in classic languages Tamil and Sanskrit come standstill. Especailly in South, people were clueless who were the rulers and from where they come.

8.Resurrection Efforts: With the efforts of 76 Nayanmars and Azhvars, the spread of Saivism and the new found Vaisnavism took deep roots in 7th century. They converted a Pallava ruler and made Sanskrit and Tamil as court languages of Kanchi.

9.Replication: Similar efforts were made and Sanskrit become again the Court language of kingdoms in North. Prakrit is considered as low commoner language by the Brahmins. Not withstanding, Ardhmadh gave birth to languages like (now Second widely spoken) Bengali in the eastern region. Many are aware, on the lighter note, that even Lord Brahma wishes, he cannot straighten the Bengali accent with the grace of Saraswathi. (We have not included Niyogis for the time being)

10.Actual Decline: But the actual decline of Sanskrit started with the fall of Kashmir around the 13th-century, a premier center of Sanskrit literary creativity, Sanskrit literature there disappeared. This coincides with the beginning of Islamic invasions of the Indian subcontinent to create, thereafter expand the Muslim rule in the form of Sultanates and later the Mughal Empire.

11.Refugee: During the same time, Hinduism has reached its peak in Tamil Country. With the new Temples built, Old Temples expanded using Dravidian Architect during 300 year rule of Hindu Vijayanagara and Naicker Empires in Tamil Country (13th to 17th Century). Conservative Hindus found it as a safe place. Sanskrit teaching of hymns and verses found a place in Towering Temples and their pronounciation lead to another peculiar dialect with tamil (still confusing with Ka, Kha, Ga, Gha…)or telugu accent. The migration of Tamil Iyers lead to Palakkad dialect and Habbar Iyengars migration to Karnataka lead to another dialect.

12.Cultural Bond: Whether one accept it or not, Sanskrit created a cultural bond across the subcontinent even with never bothered various laukita dialects and in future also it will continue to do so.

However it connected scholars, particularly its elite scholors, from distant parts of the Indian subcontinent, from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to LOC in Kashmir and beyond- Gilgit Baltistan?

Why is Punjabi more popular than Tamil in India? Is Punjabi older than Tamil? Most Indians listen to Punjabi songs but very few Indians listen to Tamil songs.

 To correct,

Punjabis are more popular than Punjabi language in India as well as in the world because they are hard working, brought white revolution, religious and good at heart.

All in India, love Punjabi cuisines. You search for Punjabi thalis or dabbas for dining out.

Unfortunately, Punjabi as a language is on the decline, whether it is other side or in Indian side. It already lost or forced to loose to Hindustani.

Why did we choose the Srivilliputtur temple in Gopuram as an emblem in Tamil Nadu?

Why did we choose the Srivilliputtur temple in Gopuram as an emblem in Tamil Nadu?

Temple Gopurams represents the culture of Tamil Nadu. Thats why Temple Gopuram was chosen as State Emblem of Tamil Nadu.

Not before 5 decades, Temple Gopurams can be seen from any part of City/ Town / Village. You can worship Gopuram, while starting any activity to get divine energy. There were rules that one should not construct a building taller than Temple Gopuram.

I.e Height of Gopuram matters.

Then why Srivilliputtur Temple, not Sri Rangam or Annamalai Temple?

Srivilliputhur Andal Temple's gopuram measures eleven storeys high and 193feet tall, making it the tallest of its era. The others are not. It is chosen as State Emblem in 1956.

Sri Rangam Rajagopuram (240ft tall) was completed in 1987.

STORY OF SRI RANGAM MOTTAI GOPURAM

We know Sri Rangam temple was destroyed in Islamic invasion and reconstructed by Vijayanagara Emperors. But many of us do not know its Rajagopuram, which is tallest(240 feet) in world today remained Mottai Gopuram for over 400 years till 1987.

Today, the temple occupies an area of 155 acres with 50 shrines, 21 towers, 39 pavilions and many water tanks integrated into the complex making it the world's largest functioning Hindu temple.

During Achuta Devarayas time, the empire under his rule was vast, from East coast to West Coast and from Hampi to Travancore.

He is more religious of all emperors. It was said that Invaders attack regions to loot treasures, Achuta Deva Raya conquer regions to endow gifts to Temples. He endowed gifts to Kanchi Ekambareswar, Perumal kovil, Reconstruction of Chidambaram Govindaraja Swamy Temple- name any temple in Thondai Mandalam- one may find his involvement.

When he died in 1542, the Sri Rangam Rajagopuram works stopped due to his personal funding. It remained as mottai gopuram for over 400 years till 1987.
